We are a dynamic and inclusive dance school that fosters a love for dance in students of all ages and abilities. Our programs inspire, challenge, and empower dancers while building strong technical skills and encouraging creative expression in a supportive environment.
Our founder Doug Pouwhare, believes that ‘Dancing is the physical expression of emotion, from ecstasy to anguish… doesn’t everyone deserve the chance to feel that?
Meet the team
Director of Dance and founder Doug Pouwhare
Doug is a Fellow and Examiner with the NZ Federation of Teachers of Dance. In addition he is a World Dance Council registered adjudicator. He has judged all major Dancesport competitions in Australasia and has produced champions in all age groups in New Zealand.

Principal Ballet and Jazz – Kirstin Wilks
Kirstin is based at the Katikati studio and is focused on ensuring the teaching and syllabus delivered at the Dance Collective is of the highest standard.

With a passion for dance that began at the tender age of three, I have cultivated my skills through extensive training in both ballet and modern dance, specifically Checcetti technique. My journey took me to the esteemed Kerry Barends Academy of Dance in Durban, South Africa, where I honed my craft. With nine years of dedicated teaching experience, I am committed to inspiring and nurturing the next generation of dancers.

Ballet and Jazz – Jo Lucas
Jo Lucas is an accomplished dance instructor with 12 years of teaching experience, specializing in a variety of styles including Solo Seal NZAMD Jazz, Contemporary, and Hip Hop, as well as Advanced 1 RAD Ballet. Throughout her career, she has successfully coached a senior contemporary crew to the National finals in 2017, showcasing her ability to inspire and develop talent. Jo has also been involved in numerous productions, including the renowned musical CATS, demonstrating her dedication to the performing arts and her commitment to fostering a love for dance in students of all ages, from four years old to adults.

We offer a wide range of dance styles, including Ballroom, Ballet, Jazz, Wedding Dance, D2D.
